Wairau Valley Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association Inc.
aka “The Valley People”
Incorporated in 2008, the association has the following objectives:
- Provide a forum for the Wairau Valley community at which members’ concerns and praises can be heard;
- Promote communication within the Wairau Valley community and with other interested parties and authorities;
- Promote a safer environment in the Wairau Valley for people to live, work and visit;
- Further the interests of members both individually and collectively.
Association membership was originally confined to those in Wairau Valley Township but is now open to anyone residing between the Wash and Waihopai Bridges.
An active committee meets monthly and embraces a philosophy of supporting “positive changes” as opposed to only dealing with complaints. The group has a positive relationship with ward councillors.
Meetings are open to members and non-members. Communication with the community is achieved via the Wairau Valley News
(a monthly newsletter that goes to all households) and also via the Wairau Valley Facebook page.
Committee meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Wairau Valley Peace Memorial Hall. These meetings are open to anyone who is interested in coming.
Annual membership of the Association is $5.00.
