About Us
We're Mike and Mariette de Ruiter and we welcome you to Fishtail Lodge.
After travelling for 4 years in The USA and Canada with Timewind our motor home, meeting wonderful people, seeing amazing places, national parks, wild life, fishing rivers and lakes we decided that we were ready for a new adventure in our lives.
Fishtail Lodge is named for Mount Fishtail, a local landmark and part of Mt Richmond Forest park. With its snow-capped peaks in winter, the park forms a beautiful backdrop to the valley of the 147 km-long Wairau River.
Our 2,5 acre flower garden has wonderful views of Mount Richmond. The flowering season begins in the last week of October and runs through to the end of November, so any quests staying with us at that time of year are in for a treat.
We love sharing this very special place with our guests. We want you to relax in beautiful mountain view surroundings, catch a couple of brown or rainbow trout with Mike and let us treat you to the very best hospitality Fishtail Lodge can offer.
